The idea of the electric car all but died out completely in the past decade.
Many factors have been blamed for its downfall, including a lack of standardization between different producers, not enough recharging stations, and the amount of time it takes to recharge (compared to a gas tank refill).
However, four of the leading Japanese automakers intend to change this, inspired by tea.
That’s right, according to a recent report, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota have formed the CHAdeMO association, which they hope will advance the use of electric cars by making improvements to existing technology, standardization, and quick charging methods.
But what’s in a name, you may ask? CHAdeMO is a play on the Japanese phrase “O cha demo ikaga desuka” which translates to “let’s have a cup of tea while charging.” This is hinting to the fact that re-charging the car would only take as long as it would take to drink a cup of tea. (Which, if it is a delicious cup of premium loose leaf tea, is no time at all!)
Amazing innovations, great teamwork and a healthier environment -all inspired by our love of tea!
