By now, most Americans are used to seeing tea in supermarkets, but lately tea has been sneaking into several venues where you wouldn’t expect to find it. In fact, you may have noticed that your favorite tea (ahem, Tavalon) has even made its way into many spas and cosmetic/skin care stores. Well, there is a very good reason for this: tea is really good for your skin.
Next time you get a bug bite, try this: dip a cotton ball into a little leftover (but still warm) tea. The swelling and itching should mainly subside – and rather quickly.
Or next time you feel adventurous, try mixing a little matcha (a Japanese powdered green tea) with your face mask treatment. Many spas and cosmetic companies are doing just this it is great against inflamed breakouts and blemishes, sunburns, even puffy eyelids.
Amazingly, tea has even been shown to help block the type of skin cancers caused by exposure to the sun. In fact, you can either drink it OR mix it into your sunscreen or moisturizer to get these effects (which is why you’re seeing a lot of sunscreens or moisturizers are starting to add tea into their products).
If you are in the NYC area, you can spoil yourself at the Townhouse Spa (on 56th street between 5th and 6th avenues) and enjoy a Genius Steam treatment, which uses our blend of white tea and peppermint in their luxurious sauna!
Either way you steep it, treat your skin to some great tea. Your body will thank you for it!
