If you are like me, you spent a good portion of yesterday’s Memorial Day vacation outside, grilling, spending time with the ones you love, and enjoying some spectacular iced tea (in some cases, spiked). After all, it is not only the unofficial start of summer, but now also the beginning of June – a.k.a., National Iced Tea Month.
Unfortunately, if you are also like me, you forgot it was the unofficial start of summer, and stayed outside grilling, spending time with the ones you love, and enjoying some spectacular iced tea (in some cases, spiked) for too long, and it wasn’t until you got back indoors when you realized that you were the proud recipient of a raging sunburn.
So what’s a Tea Sommelier to do? What comes naturally, of course: reach for some tea.
That’s right, by soaking a towel in slightly chilled tea and draping over the burn, the tannins in the tea will actually help alleviate the burn a bit (however, if you feel dizzy and/or nauseous, you should go to the doctor immediately – you may have skin poisoning).
For more body-wide burns, you can forgo the towel altogether and simply take an iced tea bath, using the aforementioned method.
And, of course, the best cure is a little prevention – keep some sunscreen by the door so you can’t forget to apply (like i did) before venturing out to the great outdoors.
